Bath Green Park railway station in 1962 - Ben Brooksbank

Green Park Station was originally opened in 1870 as the terminus of Midland Railway’s Mangotsfield and Bath Branch Line.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Green Park Railway stopped trains from departing and ultimately ceased operations due to the Beeching Report. Following this, the station was reopened in the 1980s, and the old tracks were turned into a carpark for a “major supermarket” now known as Sainsbury’s, which was built where the rails previously approached the station.

Green Park Station is now thriving with local businesses such as Resolution Records, Hacketts, Framecraft, Green Park Bike Station, Green Park Brasserie, Bath Pizza Co, The Music Workshop Cafe and the Butchers. There is also a weekly farmers market hosted on Saturdays and they can get very busy!

My goal with this project is to document Green Park Station and what happens in the area. This project also serves as a challenge for me to try and push my self to create more pictures in tighter and smaller places. I surveyed the area for several days throughout a couple of weeks and found that Green Park Station has become a hub for getting to and from the centre of the city. Every couple of minutes the traffic lights outside the front facing towards the city will go green and a burst of people will come rushing through Green Park to get to the outskirts of the city.
